Frances was a graduate of Randolph Macon Women's College of Lynchburg, Va. She and Henry Thomas Owen were married on Sept. 1, 1931, at her home, "The Oaks", 1117 Cherokee Road. They made their first home in Alexandria, Louisiana. They moved to New York City and lived there and on Long Island, N.Y. while Henry earned his PhD at New York Univesity. They moved back to Louisiana in 1943 and in 1951 they moved to Austin, Texas, where Henry taught at the University of Texas.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Owen; her parents, Joseph and Edith Pettigrew, Sr.; three brothers, Joseph Edward Pettigrew, Jr., James Alexander Pettigrew, and George Wannamaker Pettigrew; her sister, Edith Wannamaker Pettigrew; sisters-in-law, Margaret Elizabeth Ross Pettigrew and Ruth Critcher Pettigrew.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Frances Owen Hulberg and son-in-law Charles Hulberg of Austin; a sister, Lily Elizabeth Pettigrew of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Lynn Renegar Margason and husband Kevin and Katherine Frances Hinds and husband Christopher of Austin and Pamela Renegar Snider and husband James of Southlake, Texas, Michael Owen Renegar and wife Leann of Round Rock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Emily Frances Snider, William Snider, Matthew Renegar, Bryan Renegar, David Hinds, Jonathan Hinds and Jeffrey Hinds; nieces and nephews, Gwynne Pettigrew Jeffords and husband William (Billy), George Pettigrew, Jr. and wife, Linda, Henry Timmons Pettigrew and wife Shirley, Joy Pettigrew Ackerman and husband Bill, Nancy Pettigrew Robinson and husband Barry, Peggy Pettigrew, and Ned Pettigrew; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana, on Tuesday, December 17, 2002.
