OBITUARY: Statesboro, Georgia.

Ethel Jones Bowen, 88 died Saturday morning at Bulloch Memorial Hospital.

The native and lifelong resident of Evans County was a farmer and hosewife. She was a member of Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Alice Marguerite Bowen-Cavanaugh, Ocala, Fla.; four sons, Alfred Jackson Bowen, Register, William Kenneth Bowen, Statesboro, Clyde Randford Bowen, Gainesville, & Charles Elliott Bowen, Claxton; one brother, Sam Jones, Claxton; and 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at NeSmith Funeral Home chapel with Eld. Jack Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher W. Bowen, Larry Bowen, Alfred Bowen III, Reed Bowen, Jim Bowen and Stephen Jones.

Ethel Marguerite Jones and Alfred Jackson Bowen, JR. were the parents of seven children, six sons (all honorably served their Country, three in the US Navy and three in the US Air Force) and one daughter, as follows:

1). James Harold Bowen, b. 28 MAY 1928, d. 07 JUL 1989. A veteran of the United States Navy. Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery, Bulloch County, Georgia. (four children, Nancy Lynn Bowen, James Larry Bowen, Kathy Lee Bowen and Andy Harold Bowen.)

2). Alfred Jackson Bowen, III, b. 05 JUN 1930. A veteran of the United States Navy. (three children, Marilyn Jewel Bowen (adopted), Anna Marie Bowen and Alfred Jackson Bowen, IV)

3). Martin Eastwood Bowen, b. 28 DEC 1931, d. 21 DEC 1990. A veteran of the United States Navy. Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery, Bulloch County, Georgia. Never married. No children.

4). William Kenneth Bowen, b. 14 JUL 1933. A veteran of the United States Air Force. Father of six children; Debra Ann Bowen, Christopher William Bowen, Michelle Denise Bowen, Kenneth Craig Bowen, and William Robert Bowen.)

5). Clyde Randford Bowen, b. 23 DEC 1934, d. 16 JAN 2011. A veteran of the United States Air Force. Bowen-Dekle Family Cemetery, near Excelsior Community, Candler County, Georgia. (three children, Reed Stephens Bowen, Amy Jewel Bowen and Robert Scott Bowen)

6). Charles Elliott Bowen, b. 13 JUN 1936. A veteran of the United States Air Force. (two children, Cindy and James Charles Bowen).

7). Alice Marguerite Bowen, b. 08 NOV 1938 (one child, a daughter, Erin Michelle Cavanaugh).

Ethel Marguerite Jones is the daughter of CSA veteran, Martin Eastwood Jones, and Ella J. Ennis, both interred in the Ephesus Church Cemetery, Bulloch County, Georgia where Ethel also is interred next to her husband, A. J. Bowen, Jr..
