He was the son of the late Garvin and Neta McGee Banister. He was a professor of engineering graphics and head of Cooperative Education Program at Clemson University, where he graduated from in 1939. He received a Masters degree from Bradley University. Mr. Banister was a retired Lt. Col. with the U.S. Army Reserves and served active duty during World War II. He was a member of the Rotary Club, in which he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a past President of the Clemson Fellowship Club.
