Trooper Elmer B. Crowell, New York State Police, enlisted 10 July 1917 resigned 16 Nov. 1919.
Tpr. EB Crowell was one of the original "camp men" at "Camp Newayo" when the NYSP were formed in Manlius, NY, the summer of 1917.

Their first assignment was police the New York State Fair in the summer of 1917.
Then on 27 September 1917, Trooper Crowell, along with 52 Troopers were assigned to Troop A, Batavia, New York.

When the NYSP were formed, men enlisted for 2 years service, some reenlisted, many resigned. At that time World War I was going on in Europe, most of the Troopers submitted WWI draft registration cards, believing they wouldn't be drafted by joining the NYSP.
Not true, some were drafted.
