Mrs. Allison was born February 21, 1924, in Long Branch, N.J.
While a student at Princeton Theological Seminary, she met James Abner Allison Jr. They married in December of 1950 and became the first married couple to graduate together from the Seminary – she with a Masters of Christian Education and he with a Divinity degree. In 1960 they moved to Roanoke where he became the pastor of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, a post he would hold until his retirement in 1990. Margaret, too, served Raleigh Court in many ways over the years, teaching Sunday School and Bible studies, leading a women's Circle, and singing in the choir for as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; a sister; and her husband, the Rev. Allison.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Cathers; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Tracy Allison; and their daughters, Sarah and Katherine Allison; and a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Roberts Bass; and their children, Jim and Corinne Bass.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church with Dr. Tupper Garden officiating. Interment will be private in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Brandon Oaks Retirement Center, 3804 Brandon Ave., S.W. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave, S.W. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church Music Fund or The Allison School in Haiti, 1837 Grandin Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24015.
