Thomas was the son of Dr. Sewell Snowden Hepburn and Selina Lloyd Powell.

He married Katharine Martha Houghton on June 6, 1904.

He was a successful urologist who fought for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Death: Nov. 20, 1962, in West Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut

Dr. Thomas Norval Hepburn, a Hartford surgeon with Virginia with Maryland roots, was a successful urologist at Hartford Hospital, and was a pioneer in the use of contraceptives to fight venereal disease. His first wife (Katharine's mother), Katharine Kit" Houghton Hepburn helped promote birth control/family planning, African-Americans' civil rights, and votes for women. The Hepburn house was a meeting ground for famous social reformers, such as Emmeline Pankhurst, Margaret Sanger, and George Bernard Shaw.
