Mardell attended school through the 8th grade.
On February 24, 1946, Mardell was married to John Irvin Law. Two sons, Marvin and David, were born to this union.
After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Churdan area and in 1969, they moved to the Law family farm.
John passed away in 1971 and Mardell continued to help on the family farm. In 1981, she moved to her home in Churdan. In the fall of 2010, she became a resident of the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.
Mardell was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville and was a former longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
During her life, Mardell enjoyed reading, gardening, watching (Cubs) baseball and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the "sew-so" club and enjoyed quilting.
Mardell is survived by her son, David and his wife, Kathy, of Des Moines, daughter-in-law, Peg Law of Churdan, four grandchildren; Jill Borkowski, Kimberly (Marc) Vasquez, Heather Law and Jon Law and five great-grandchildren; Rebecca and Daniel Borkowski, Kalen and Sean Law and Jakob Vasquez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Marvin in 2012 and two brothers; Verl and Dale Subbert.
A celebration of Mardell's life was held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 12, 2013 from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Robert Zellmar officiating.
Burial was made in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. At the service, the congregation sang "Amazing Grace", Beautiful Savior" and "Just as I Am" with Marsha Subbert as organist.
Serving as casket bearers were Dennis Subbert, Bob Subbert, Jon Law, Daniel Borkowski, Lynn Subbert and Shawn Subbert.
Visitation was held from 4 to 6 P.M Sunday at the Brown Funeral Home in Churdan.
