Lovetta Sandell Dodson, 84, a longtime resident of Taylor County, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at an Abilene medical center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with Dr. Steven G. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lovetta was born in Buffalo Gap, Texas, on March 4, 1920, to Georgie Ann (McCollum) and Lanie Buena Sandell, and was reared in Tuscola in South Taylor County. She married Roy Clarence Dodson on December 24, 1938, in Tuscola, and moved to Abilene in 1946. During World War II, she was employed at Camp Barkeley as a secretary, and was later employed by Sears Roebuck in sales.

Mrs. Dodson was a homemaker and a charter member of Brook Hollow Christian Church. While her children were involved in activities of the organizations, she was a volunteer with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also worked in various elections as a volunteer, and was a member of Abilene Garden Club.

She was predeceased by her husband on May 15, 1985, and her parents.

Survivors include a son, Dwain Dodson and wife, Dana, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky; a daughter, Cathy Richardson and husband, Jack, of Big Spring, Texas; and six grandchildren, Annette Richardson of Big Spring, and Megan, Austin, Caleb, Peter, and Scott Dodson, all of Taylor Mill, KY. She is also survived by a brother-in law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Barbara Dodson of Houston; and two sisters-in-law, Joy Smart of San Angelo, and Bertha Marie Dodson of Portland, TX.
