Dagny Matheson
Estherville – Services for Dagny B. Matheson, 86, of Estherville, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Friday, July 8, 1994 at Good Samaritan Center, Estherville.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born Sept. 14, 1907 at Wilson, Wis., the daughter of Leonard and Elise Bakken. She received her early education in rural schools of Douglas County, Wis. and attended Superior Normal School later received an AA degree from Estherville Junior College and a BS degree from Mankato State University. On July 20, 1919 she married Carl B. Matheson in San Francisco, Calif. The couple returned to the midwest and taught school several years in Wisconsin before moving to Iowa where they farmed near Dolliver, Ringsted and Armstrong. In 1958 they moved to Estherville and she taught school a number of years, later teaching mentally handicapped students.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and chapter member of Ibsen Lodge 537 Sons of Norway.

Survivors include sons: Leonard of Minneapolis, Richard of Pleasant Dale, Neb. and Delbert of Eugene, Ore.; daughters: Mrs. Arthur (Kathleen) Olson of Detroit and daughter-in-law Ruth Mathison of Rake; 16 grandchildren; 16 great –grandchildren; one brother, Eivin Bakken, Solon Springs, Wis.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, parents; two brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 9, 1994)
