Funeral services for Gertrude Lamon Braswell, 91, will be Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Malcolm E. Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Braswell, who died Thursday, October 13, 2011, at River City Care & Rehabilitation, was born December 3, 1919, in Morgan County to Carrie Norwood Lamon and John Louis Lamon. She left Alabama Hosiery Mill to become a mother and homemaker. In later years, with her husband as owner of Green Acres Golf Course, she learned to play golf along with many other young golfers she watched grow up. Mrs. Braswell was an active member of Chapel Hill UMC serving as Junior Sunday School teacher, choir member and any capacity that involved a great cooked meal. She received much joy watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play basketball, football, and baseball. The referees said she could call the games better than they could. When she was no longer making beautiful dresses for her daughters, she began to make fabric Bible story books that she shared with all her grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gorman Braswell whom she married March 23, 1940.

Mrs. Braswell is survived by her son, O'Neal Braswell (Kathy) of Hackleburg; daughters, Carolyn McLemore (Don), Charlotte Atkins, Mary Sue McDaniel (Joe) all of Decatur, and Kathy Braswell of Montgomery; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family gives a special thank you to all those at River City who gave mother such loving care. We are thankful to Dr. Prickett and Hospice of the Valley who helped us all through the last weeks. We are grateful for all the friends who loved our mother.
