Peter J. Americo, age 82, of Farmington, Fayette County, Pa., died suddenly Wednesday, November 23, 2005. He was born August 2, 1923, in Monessen, Pa., son of Peter James Americo and Ann Tessino Americo.
He served in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. He spent some quality youth playing minor league baseball in the Carolinas as a southpaw pitcher. He had worked for Planters Peanut Company for 39 years and was known as "Peanut Pete". He was an avid golfer and loved his golfing buddies, John, George and A. J. He especially enjoyed working at the 84 Lumber Classic at Nemacolin Woodlands. "Pete" loved to sing and listen to Frank Sinatra. He was a friend to many, especially "F Troop", and would talk to anyone who would stand to listen.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Dom, and four sisters, Florence, Juliet, Edith and Rose.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Gordon) Americo, whom he met while attending Waynesburg College; a son, Peter G. Americo and a daughter, Dr. Amy Americo and her husband, Steve Alberts; two grandchildren: Colette and Luca; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME OF FARMINGTON, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 26, until 11 a.m., the time of the Service. Interment will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery, Farmington, Fayette County, Pa.
