NORWAY - Donald Jesse Mason, Sr., 75, of Woodstock, Maine, died September 18, 2001, at Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway. He was born in Apex, NY, Nov. 17, 1925, the son of the late Jesse and Mae (Utter) Mason. In 1934 he moved with his family to South Lancaster, MA, where he attended Browning Memorial Elementary and South Lancaster Academy. From 1943-1946 during World War II he served his country in the Merchant Marines. On November 20, 1946, he married the former Virginia Thurlow of Woodstock. Together they ran "Virdon" dairy farm and trucking and logging businesses on Curtis Hill, while raising four children. In 1967 they sold the farm and built Mollyockett Motel on Route 26, in Woodstock. Mr. Mason had been a very active member of the Woodstock Seventh Day Adventist Church, for many years.A major project was to have the vision and expertise to plan and head up the building of the "Hope Thurlow Memorial Community Center." Mr. Mason had always been a visionary, and his most recent project/hobby was "The Mason Lazy M Ranch," on the top of Curtis Hill with beautiful views of the Presidential Mountain Range. Mr. Mason so enjoyed working on this project, creating a place where his family, which extended to the church and also many others in the surrounding community, to enjoy. Very recently a baptism was held at the Mason Lazy M Ranch, creating a beautiful backdrop scene for this event. Over the years many family reunions and Sabbath Pot Luck Dinners have been held there.
