Joseph Garlick, 95; Mt. Savage Road. One of the few remaining Civil war veterans in this section and the only one in the Cumberland area to attend the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg last July, died late yesterday afternoon at his home. Surviving are eight sons, Louis, Peter, Wilson, William, Michael H. ; Francis, Walter and Christopher; two daughters Mrs. Susie O'Neal and Mrs. Mary Catherine Roman. He was a retired blacksmith and farmer. Mr. Garlick was a native of Monroe township, Bedford county PA and enlisted in Company B, 25th New York Infantry Feb 26 1864 when he was 18. His discharge three years later is signed by Bg. Major General William D. Whipple with the notation that Garlick proved himself an excellent soldier. Mr. Garlick moved here from Hancock a number of years ago. He was a member of Foster Post no 37. Grand Army of the Republic which went out of existence at Hancock many years ago.
