Charles Thomas German was the 2nd child of 9 children born to John Wesley German & Julia Ann (or Anna) Whited. He was born 16 Dec 1858 in Marshall County, Indiana & died 28 Aug 1948 in Los Angeles County, CA.

He appears as a member of his father's household on the following Federal Census records:

1860 - West Township, Marshall County, IN (enumerated 5 Jul 1860) - Charles German - 1 yr
1870 - West Township, Marshall County, IN (enumerated 18 Aug 1870) - Charles T. German - 11 yrs
1880 - Buchanan, Page County, IA (enumerated 2 Jul 1880) - Charles German - 21 yrs - school teacher

His parents moved from Iowa to Pasadena, CA in 1887. I don't know if Charles made the trip with them, or followed later, but he & all of his surviving siblings, eventually, ended up living in the Southern California area.

Charles first married Ida V. Atkins about 1881 in Indiana. They appear in the 1900 Federal Census living in Pasadena, CA. Other members of the household include a son, Fred German (18 yrs, born Indiana), a daughter, Nita B. German (12 yrs, born California) & Ida's mother, Emeline Atkins. Ida passed away in 1901.

Charles married Alice M. Barker 2/22/1905 in Manhattan, New York. She was a daughter of Samuel G. Barker & Susan Kidder. They appear in the 1910 Federal Census living in Los Angeles, CA. Other members of the household include Charles' daughter, Nita German, Susan Parker, 76 yrs (probably Alice's mother) & Alma Goldberg, 23 yrs. Alice German passd away in 1911.

Charles then married Josephine Belle (Croco) Montgomery (from her 1st marriage to Charles M. Montgomery) on 4/10/1913 in Riverside County, CA. She was the daughter of Adam & Maria (Whited) Croco. The couple show up on both the 1920 and 1940 Census in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California.

Special thanks to FAG member Brian Winter & to Montgomery family researcher Herb Wiggins, both of whom contributed information included in this bio.
