She was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Patrick Henry and Mattie Lewis Collins. Mrs. Aitken was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Gary Aitken; three brothers, Clifton W. Collins, Patrick L. Collins, and Sam L. Collins; and one sister, Louvinia Ford.
Surviving Mrs. Aitken are two sons, James Jeffery Aitken and his wife, Christy, of Blythewood, S.C. and Philip Gregory Aitken and his wife, Patricia, of Summerset, South Dakota; one daughter, Patricia Ruth Boccabello and her husband, Jeremy, of Columbia; three sisters, Corene McCain and her husband, Marshall, of Columbia, Nancy Norton and her husband, Harry, of Mullins, and Patricia C. Garrett of Mullins; as well as eleven grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, October 6, 2011 at The First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson, The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes, and Dr. John R. de Witt officiating. There will also be a service at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Nichols with visitation at noon. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
