Jacksonville Journal Courier (in part): Chester A. Thomason, 84, a prominent Markham community farmer and former county commissioner, died Saturday morning, May 5, at Passavant Hospital.

He was born September 8, 1899 south of Lynnville, a son of Allinson and Lizzie Combs Thomason. He was married to Juanita Coultas November 17, 1957. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Martha) Varble of Jacksonville and three grandchildren: Daniel Lee, Allinson Lee and Steven Lee, Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ethel Carter.

Mr. Thomason was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and a ast officer of both the church and the Sunday School. He graduated from Brown Business College in 1920. He served five terms as a Morgan County commissioner; he was chairman of the Morgan County Bicentennial Family History Book Committee; a member of the Diamond Grove Mausoleum Association; and was a member of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club for 38 years.

Mr. Thomason was president of the Chapin Farmers Elevator for 45 years and served as a director for 50 years. He was a past president of the Morgan County Farm Bureau; a past director of the Morgan County Service Co.; a past president of the Morgan County Health Improvement Association; a past treasurer of the Illinois Health Improvement Association and a former trustee of Passavant Hospital.
