Ida died from complications of childbirth 3 days after giving birth to her 12th child. This obituary appeared in the Oglethorpe Echo newspaper on 28 June 1899:

Died Monday night June 19th, at 11:30 o'clock, after an illness of only thirty-five hours, Mrs. Ida Pittard, a daughter of the late B. H. Barnett, Esq. and the beloved wife of Mr. Jno. T. Pittard. We know no one in our town whose death could produce more sadness than this estimable lady. Her worthy, character and standing in this community was evidenced by the genuine sorrow manifested and the attendance upon the funeral exercises held at the Methodist church, of which she was a faithful member, on last Wednesday morning. A beautiful tribute to her memory and character was paid by Dr. J. B. Robins, by her pastor R. J. J. Angley and by Rev. W. M. Coile. All during Monday when the news of life and death were involved, our town was hushed and inquiries made after her condition continually. As the day waned and all hope was abandoned our people went to their homes sorrowing for the husband and children whose hearts were crushed and for the going out of a life that was beautiful and lovely as a June morn. Ida Pittard did not leave an enemy behind for her whole life had been to make the world better. The blow comes heaviest on the husband and children whose loss is irreplaceable. Sisters and brother and a larger number of kindred face the sudden, terrible shock, and to all our people express the tenderest sympathies. May He who died for sinners and doeth all things well, soften the affliction that has come to this family in their bereavement how to fade to the Divine Will. "Chide not nor for your mother grieve too bitterly. The Father of the fatherless will be your father and God. You know who says I will not leave you orphans. He will send the blessed Comforter to comfort you. And soon will come and take you to Himself. That where he is there may you also be in glory.
