Rev. William O. Andes Jr.
Methodist minister served on Scouting Board
The Rev. William O. Andes Jr., 96, a guest at Riverwoods Nursing Center in Lewisburg, and formerly a longtime resident of Danville, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Nanticoke, a son of the late William O. Sr. and Caroline (Walters) Andes.
As a youth, in 1925, he joined Boy Scout Troop 404 in Nanticoke, and rose to the rank of Star Scout. As an adult in Scouting, he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 49 in Danville. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Columbia-Montour Council of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a member of the Eagle Scout Board of Review committee. He was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. For his service to Scouting, the Rev. Andes was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of Theta XI fraternity of the University of Iowa Chapter. The Rev. Andes proudly served in the Army National Guard, earning the rank of Master Sergeant.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 0945, as well as Washies Fire and Hose Company of Danville. He was a 33rd Degree Mason as well as a member of Kiwanis International, serving as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Lewisburg club. The Rev. Andes was an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church and served various churches, including the Buckhorn and Orangeville charges.
The Rev. Andes is survived by his three sons: Oliver Andes of Easton; Ned and his wife, Connie Andes, of Danville; Jon and his wife, Laurie Andes, of Berlin, Md.; three grandchildren: Jennifer and her husband, Gary Brent; Caroline Andes and Peter Andes; as well as two great-grandchildren, Zachary Brent and Ashley Brent.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, the former Annetta Semmer, on June 23, 2010; as well as two sisters: C. Ellen Howard and Edna Schurz.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, with the Rev. Rayvon Hilliard officiating. The burial will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery in Danville. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services.
