In 1870 Census George (age 13) is living with his parents & siblings in Fulton Co, Illinois.

In 1880 Census George (age 23 years), still living at home with his parents, and working on their family farm in Farmington, Rooks Co., Kansas. Siblings Emma, Edmund & Emma lived at home too.

1890, A Child, Elizabeth "Bessie" Bartolomew is born in Kansas

In his mother's obit in 1907 George was living in Gunnison, Colorado.

In 1910 Census, George age 53 is single, and living in Delta, Colorado.

In the 1920 census, George age 63 lived in Casper, Natrona County, Wyoming. Says he is widowed.

In the 1930 Census a 73 year old George lived in Prescott, AZ. Widowed and a lodger in the home of William B. Sawyer.

In 1940, an 83 year old George lived in Cashmere, Chelan, Washington.

From my late Mother, Betty Shirley's Bartholomew Book dated 1978, she wrote about George:

George was in real estate. He had about a million dollars in property. His wife wanted him to sell, but he put off selling until, suddenly and overnight, he went broke.
Then George became interested in mining. His wife left him and took their 3 year old daughter, Bessie, with her. Bessie married twice surnames Zartman and Collins. She lived in San Francisco or Oakland, California. One time George came to visit her and she didn't know him as her father. Apparently her mother had never told Bessie about her father, George.

George has a daughter name Bessie Bartholomew:

Here's some unconfirmed THEORIES I have collected from the records while looking for Elizabeth "Bessie" C. Bartholomew b. 1890 in Kansas.

1st m. George B. Zartman, a minister in Los Angeles, CA
Children:
Hugh Zartman b. Sept. 28, 1914 in Los Angeles, CA
Rosemary Zartman b. Nov. 6, 1920 in Los Angeles, CA

I believe George's wife name was Elizabeth A. "Lizzie" LNU b. 1865 in Kansas. After divorcing George, Lizzie remarried John A. Caldwell of Los Angeles, California. John may have had a daughter by a previous marriage named Mary Caldwell-Clark. Either they led Bessie to believe this was her biological father or Mr. Caldwell adopted Bessie, not sure. Bessie went by the surname Caldwell, not Bartholomew.

In 1920 Census, George and Bessie Zartman, and their 5 year old son Hugh were living in Los Angeles. George's mother Anna Zartman and siblings Florence & Allen were living all in the same residence.

1930 Census, George & Bessie were living in Oakland, Ca and had a 9 year old daughter, Rosemary and son, Hugh was now 15 years old living with them too.

Sept 16, 1939 Hugh died from burns in a laboratory fire at his job, he was 24 years old. See obit below.

In 1940 Census, Bessie (age 50)was living with her daughter, Rosemary age 19, and a lodger James Reavis. Says she is divorced.

2nd m. surname Collins
