A son of Leonard and Phoebe Augusta Ely Denison, he was a Mason, rendered Union service during the Civil War as a member of the 71st Regiment, New York Militia. He was appointed registrar of the U.S. Land Office in 1865, built the first wagon factory in Little Rock, and was a real estate developer.
