Dorothy Jean Straten, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was born December 8, 1922, in Kent, Ohio, a daughter of the late Owen and Dorothy Thomas. Dorothy graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1940. She retired from Harcourt Manufacturing Company where she served for many years as Union Secretary. Dorothy and her close friend, Mary Eskridge, spent many years with their shared love of arts and crafts, creating many special treasures. Dorothy loved to travel and her many adventures included trips across the United States. She enjoyed her large family and delighted in many large family gatherings including her 80th birthday where friends and family celebrated this amazing woman. She is survived by her children: Joseph Straten and wife Clara, Sandra Alexoff and husband David, Larry Straten and wife Janet, Edward Straten and wife Patricia, Peggy Ott and husband John; her brother: Bob Thomas; 12 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Henry Straten, sisters Marge Slocum and Wanda Long, and her brother Bill Thomas. Friends will be received Friday, September 16, 2011, from 11:00 AM 1:00 PM at the Wood- Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Funeral services will be officiated by her grandson Pastor Dan Alexoff at 1:00 PM Friday. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
