HANDFIELD, Robert T. Robert T. Handfield, 86, of Willimantic, husband of the late Jean (Stevens) Handfield, died Friday (March 13, 2009) at St. Joseph Living Center, Windham. He was born Nov. 18, 1922 in Willimantic the son of the late John and Louise (Tessier) Handfield. He was a World War II 9th Army Air Corps veteran. For forty four years, Mr. Handfield had been employed as a truck driver by Lydall's in Manchester. He was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Willimantic and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn women's basketball. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by three daughters, Donna Bongiovanni and her husband Joseph of Manchester, Gail Hill and her husband Paul of E. Lyme and Sheree Rondeau and her husband Paul of Lebanon; a brother Francis Handfield of N.Franklin, a sister Doris Clark of Mansfield, four grandchildren, Stacy, Paula, Sarah and Christina; a great grandson Harley and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Helen Deschenes. His family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic between 9-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 17th prior to his 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church Repair Fund, 80 Maple Ave. Willimantic, CT. 06226.
