Henry "Jook" Boyd Sr., 76, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 9, 2010, at Baptist Hospital-North in Oxford. He was a member of the male chorus, a member of the church choir, a church steward, church trustee, Sunday school treasurer and a retired farmer.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Adolphus Chapel CME Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Dooley officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Lizzie Richmond Boyd; seven daughters, Edna Boyd, Linda Boyd, Parthinia Walker, Laney Jones, Cheryl Jones, Valena Howell, all of Holly Springs, Mamie Pritchard of Victoria; a son, Henry Boyd Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; eight sisters, Carrie Ellis, Anner Mae Lang, both of Dayton, Ohio, Margarie Stovall of Byram, Aurelia Smith of Jackson, Verlease Blackmon of Joliet, Ill., Arlender Jones of Memphis, Mary Elizabeth Bills, Sharon Hamer, both of Blue Mountain; nine brothers, Robert Earl Jones of Dayton, Ohio, Clay C. Jones of Holly Springs, Kenneth Jones of Birmingham, Ala., Oscar Boyd Jr., Timothy Boyd, Willie M. Boyd, Roney Boyd, Rickey Lee Boyd, James Boyd, all of Blue Mountain.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Jones; and a brother, James E. Boyd.
