KITTIE MAY ROOF
Kittie May, daughter of A. B. and Mary Averill, was born May 12, 1869, in Jones County, Iowa, and departed this life June 19, 1941, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 7 days.
On May 7, 1892, she was united in marriage to D. C. Roof. To this union five children were born. Two preceded her in death, Neva May on Sept. 13, 1896, at the age of seven months and Una Beula Lorence, Jun 4, 1929.
While yet a young girl, her mother died leaving small children, to which she acted as a as a mother.
At 18 years of age she united with the Baptist Church at Corydon, Iowa, and has lived a beautiful Christian life, was so patience, (sic) always trusting in her savior. Her life was spent in loving service caring for her family. She spent many years caring for her father. Her family loved her dearly, for she always had a cheerful word and smile for every one. She has spoken many times of her readiness to go.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, three children, Mrs. Leta Lorence, and Deward Roof of Lemons, Mo., and Ralph Roof of Unionville, Mo.; three brothers and one sister, H. A. Averill, Des Moines, Iowa, Chas. Averill of Tuscon, Ariz., Mrs. Lettie Chamberlin, Grand Junction, Colo., and Floyd E. Averill, of Kansas City, MO.; step-brothers and sisters, Mrs. Bertha Oakes, Mrs. Nora Catwell, Mrs. Della Lyman and Mr. Mella Howser, all of Chariton, Iowa. Ten grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Methodist Church at Lemons, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Basil Sinclair. Interment in Lemons Cemetery.
Relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. H. A. Averill, Des Moines, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Vermeulin, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Scott of Des Moines, Ia.; Mr. F. E. Averill and daughter, Miss Pauline, of Argentine, Kan.; Mr. J. C. Roof, Mr. Harley Roof of Garden Grove, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Coy Roof, Humeston, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Roof and two sons, Chariton, Ia.; Mrs. Ray Couchman, Mr. Howard Couchman, Powersville, MO.; Miss Genevieve Saveley, Weldon, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas Lymon, Mr. Mella Houser, Mrs. Bertha Oapes and Mrs. Albert Peterson, all of Chariton, Ia.
