Elisha Maynard, born August 26, 1830 in Athens, Ohio, the son of Levi Maynard Jr. and Calista Cleveland Maynard. He died March 28, 1910 in Beloit, Lyon County, Iowa. Elisha was a gardener and died from some sort of poisoning. He was a Methodist minister. He had two churches on the Iowa side of the border and two on the South Dakota side. He was also the last mayor of Beloit, Iowa, before it was unincorporated. He married Adeline Celeste Brown on September 24, 1856 in Prophetstown, Iowa. She was born October 10, 1833 in Castleton, Vermont, the daughter of Philip Brown and Maria Lewis Brown. She died December 5, 1913 in Beloit, Iowa. They had 8 children: Charles Wesley, William Jay, Edwin M. Simpson, Curtis Lincoln, Mary M. Calista, Martha Adeline, Carrie May and Ida Roberta Maynard.
