Henry Gairns was born in Elora,Ontario, September 8, 1849 and died at his home in Evart Tuesday, January 8, 1929 at the age of 80 years and four months.
In the year 1867 he was united in marriage to Marion Templeton. To this union eleven children were born. five of whom, Janet, Hugh, Jennie, Jessie, and Maggie, precede the father in death. Left to mourn their loss are his wife, three sons, James, William and Harry of Evart, and three daughters, Annie, Mrs. Marion Shaeffer, of Evart, and Mrs. Nellie Frisby of Detroit. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Wise and a brother, Richard Gairns of Palmerton, Ontaio, besides sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Gairns came to Michigan in 1880 and cleared the farm on which he has made his home for the last 48 years. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Wm, D, Hayes were held at the home at eleven o'clock Friday morning, January 11, and interment made in the Forest Hill cemetery. Evart Review, 1929.
