Leola Cunningham Bohannan, 97, loving aunt and friend, left her earthly body on September 23, 2011. She was born on December 17, 1913 South of Lindsay, Oklahoma in the rural community of Snider. Leola was the tenth child of Abner and Etta McCoy Cunningham. A graduate of Lindsay High School, Leola moved to Oklahoma City and lived there until returning to Lindsay in 2008. She married Nelson Bohannan on July 12, 1945 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He has preceded her in death as well as her eight brothers and four sisters.
Leola attended Draughn's Business School and worked as a secretary for a church and school seating company. She was a strong-willed, independent woman who overcame many hardships. Leola enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and sewing. She is survived by sisters-in-law Kreneta and Vanoy Cunningham and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was inspirational to family and friends who shared her life. Leola was a joy to be with and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bohannan are set for two o'clock p.m. on Monday, September 26th, 2011 at the B.G. Boydston Funeral Home Chapel, located at 308 S.W. Third Street in Lindsay, Oklahoma, with Wesley Wilson giving the eulogy. Interment will follow at Purdy Cemetery in Purdy, Oklahoma, South of Lindsay. Services are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay, Oklahoma.
