Mary Ann was the daughter of John Laidler and Catherine Ann Penn of Charles County, Maryland.

Mary Ann married Major Thomas Bruce. She gave birth to her daughter Mary Laidler Bruce in 1835 and apparently died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. She was buried 2 April 1835 at Page's Chapel.(Now St. Thomas Episcopal-Croom)
In 1850, Thomas Bruce a tobacco planter, was residing in Marlboro with his daughter, Mary Laidler Bruce.
