Son of James Buchanan and second wife Mary Reside, married Margaret McAfee [daughter of James and Jane (McMichael) McAfee], about 1765, Washington County, Virginia.

George was a cousin to the father of the Secretary of State of the United States, James Buchanan.

Memorial Acre--This ground adjoins the Old Fort Cemetery. It is located within Fort Harrod State Park, Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky. It was dedicated as a sacred spot by the Kentucky Society, Daughters of The American Revolution, June 16, 1930: "The Love of Liberty, With Life Is Given."

George Buchanan moved his family to Mercer County, Kentucky in 1780. He was an Elder in the New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the War of Independence hence his inclusion in the Memorial Acre (D.A.R. Cemetery).
