Wayne was born Aug. 31, 1938 in Hallock, Minn. His grandparents were John and Helen (Ulring) Moe, Norwegian pioneers, and Sam and Dumka Karol, Ukrainian pioneers in Minnesota
He grew up in Hallock and joined the Navy in 1957. He completed that enlistment and subsequently reenlisted in the Navy in 1961, served during the Viet Nam war and was honorably discharged in 1967.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a 30 year member of the American Legion and a 50 year member of the Hallock Eagles Club
He married Peggy Connelly Aug. 30, 1969. The family lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Lombard, Ill. in 1986.

In recent years he has been a "house husband", a title he invented for himself and loved using when the opportunity arose.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy (Connelly) Karol, daughters, Lisa (Karol) Olson, Amy (Kevin) Strong and son Jack Karol. Three granddaughters, Meagan Bozak, Chloe Glowatzke and Maggie Strong also survive him. He is survived by a sister, Mavis (Paul) Nelson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret (Moe) Karol, two sisters, Myrna (Karol) Brown, Linda (Karol) Lindstrom.
Visitation was held Sept. 2 2011, with funeral services at the Brust Funeral Home, Lombard, Ill. Burial services were at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Fischer House 111 Rockfield Pike, STE 420 Rockville, MD 20850 or online at http://www.fisherhouse.org. Include a note that says the donation is in honor of Wayne Karol.
