Larry Roberts, 75, of Goldendale, Wash., passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at The Dalles Health and Rehabilitation Center in The Dalles, Ore., from congestive heart failure.

Larry was born July 18, 1936 in Salinas, to Marvin and Margarite Roberts. He attended Salinas High School where he played football and wrestled. Larry was active with the Monterey County Junior Horseman and was an avid horseman. Upon his graduation from high school, Larry joined the Navy as a naval pilot. He was based in San Diego and served on the Oriskany. While in the Navy, Larry also played football for the Navy, traveling to different colleges for games. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Monterey County as supervisor at the Monterey County Boys Ranch. Larry was a bull rider and team roper and belonged to the PRCA. He was also a horse trainer. Larry moved to Ukiah where he continued to train horses, while working for Morier Chemicals as a salesman.

He met his wife, Jamie, in Ukiah in 1967 and they married in December 1998. In 2000, Larry and Jamie moved to Goldendale, Wash., where they were living at the time of his death.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Margarite Roberts.

He is survived by his brother, Monty Roberts and his daughter, Lynn Roberts Lincoln. He is also survived by his stepson, Jason Montgomery; his granddaughters, Darlynn Haas and Leslie Smith; three step-grandchildren, Kaleb Trussell, Sierra Smith and Tyler Montgomery and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Savannah Haas and Blake Sinner.

Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas.

Donations to The Disabled Veterans would be appreciated instead of flowers.
