Helen Till Ackerman, 86, of 1000 Live Oak Drive, Orangeburg died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at The Methodist Oaks. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in Sunnyside Cemetery, with the Rev. Kermit Shrawder officiating. Mrs. Ackerman was born in New Orleans, La., a daughter of the late Evon Gardiner Till and Lucille Helen Brakenridge Till. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon Womens College, Lynchburg, Va. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, The Orangeburg Historical Society and an avid Bridge player. Survivors include her husband, Hugo Sheridan Ackerman of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy B. Till of Nunez, Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Margaret Carney of New Orleans, La.; one brother, Evon Till Jr. of Placerville, Calif.; her college roommate and cousin, Mrs. Mary Sims Gressette; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Orangeburg Historical Society, 1421 Middleton St., Orangeburg, 29115.
