TRINITY – Basil E. Albertson, Sr., 88, of Trinity passed away on September 20, 2011 at Westwood Rehab Center. He was the owner and operator of Albertson Auction Company, which he started in 1953. He experienced an exciting career as an auctioneer until 2009 when declining health caused him to retire. He was one of the oldest active auctioneers at the time of his retirement. He was one of the original founders of the NC Auctioneers Association and held the office of president in the 1960s. He was a lifelong active member of Hopewell UMC. He loved farming, raising cattle, and spending time with his family.

He was the son of the late V. H. and Lula Albertson and was preceeded in death by his brothers John W. Albertson and William Albertson. He was married to Hazel Saunders Albertson for 58 years, and she predeceased him in 2000.

Survivors include his children Basil E. Albertson, Jr (Gail), Linda Hohn (Jay), Ronnie Albertson (Julia), Jim Albertson (Pat), Tony Albertson, John Albertson (Lisa), Sandra Hayworth Albertson, and his sister Ruth Johnson.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Hopewell UMC in Trinity at 11:00am with visitation immediately following in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 4512 Hopewell Church Road, Trinity, NC 27370 or to the charity of one's choice.
