Bessie was the daughter of George Franklin & Lynda Jane Pelton Bice (her parents, sister Marie & brother Kenneth are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Ia. Sister Evelyn Quillam is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, Ia.).

She married Earl Kingery on May 11, 1940. They were the parents of Earl Leroy, Larry Dean, Billy Joe, & Jerry Ray.
