Jean (Kearney) Alterio, 63, wife of Ernest Alterio, of Monroe, died Saturday, (February 16, 2002) in St. Vincent Hospital, Bridgeport.

She was born in New Haven, daughter of the late John and Jean (Horton) Kearney, and lived in the area for most of her life, before moving to Monroe. Prior to her retirement, she worked for many years for the City of Hartford and the State of Connecticut.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Anne-Marie Matula of Southampton, MA; a son, Michael Matula and his wife, Vickie of South Dakota; two grandchildren, Cody and Nicole Matula; a brother, Richard Kearney; a sister, Patricia Albani; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by a sister, Eileen Lewis.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 20, 9:15 a.m. from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., Glastonbury. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home, 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 19.
