Lt. Col. Lees Broome

Bossier City, LA Lt. Col. Broome, 86, was born in Ocean Grove, NJ on February 16, 1925. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II in April 1943. He completed 40 combat missions in the South Pacific as an aerial gunner on B-24s. Honorably discharged in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the inactive reserve.

Colonel Broome received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant after completing ROTC at the University of Mississippi with a degree in Engineering Administration and re-entered active military service with the Air Force in 1951. He completed 40 combat missions during the Korean War. He was a Master Navigator and his overall flying time was over 5000 hours. He retired in 1974 and was active in many organizations: The Air Force Retiree Council, The Ark-La-Tex Chapter, The Louisiana Council of Chapters, member of The National Board of Directors, MOAA, Air Force Association, Louisiana Veterans Coalition, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and many other committees.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 62 years, a daughter and five grandchildren.

A memorial service for Lt. Col. Broome will be conducted Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Boone Funeral Home, Bossier City, LA. Officiating will be Lt. Col. George Finck, USAF, Retired. The cremated remains will be interred at Monmouth Memorial Park, Neptune, NJ at a later date.

Bequeaths may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Ark-La-Tex Chapter, MOAA, or the Louisiana War Veterans Home.
