Harland served for 26 years in the U.S. Army, in Germany during WWII and then in Korea. He often sent home money to his parents to help with the younger children.
He married Phillipa Wills in 1941. Harland retired as a Lt Colonel to live in Crystal Falls, Michigan. After retirement he worked as a hospital administrator in Midland, Michigan, and traveled with his wife, Phillipa.
He is survived by his wife and several sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews. The couple had no children.
