Francis Marion Cherry was born about 1815/1819 in Tennessee, the son of Benjamin Franklin Cherry IV and Charlotte Walker. In 1851 he married Elizabeth Jones, who was born in 1836. They would move from Franklin County TN to Independence AR, traveling with the Beverly Basil Owens family and possibly others before settling in the Whitewater Township in the Independence County Arkansas. Francis Marion who referred to himself as F M, practiced farming, as well as being a Preacher, and as a Justice of the Peace, performed many marriages in the area.
In 1854 their first daughter, Sarah E Cherry was born, followed by the arrival of a second daughter Susan in 1855. Later three more Daughters were born, Emily F Cherry in 1864, Tennessee L Cherry in 1868, and Charlotte "Lottie" Cherry in 1871, and finally a son, William Beverly Cherry in 1874, named for the good friend of F M Cherry, Beverly Basil Owens, who also named one of his sons Francis Marion , after F M Cherry.

Also living with the family was a nephew Frank Bradbury born in 1867 in Arkansas, whose Father was born in England, and whose Mother was born in Arkansas. But his exact relationship to the Cole family is unknown. The Cole family was living near an elder daughter, Marena/Irena Cole Lovell who had married William Lovell in Texas as his second wife.

In 1885 he met and married Miss Mary Mollie Cole Who was born in Texas in 1857. Her family which consisted of her Father, William Cole born in Tennessee in 1823, whose parents were born in France, and Mary Unknown born in Alabama, in 1827 whose parents were also born in Alabama Thought to be of Cherokee Indian descent, A sister Ellen born in Texas in 1861, and a Brother George, born in Texas in 1871. Also living with the family was a nephew Frank Bradbury born in 1867 in Arkansas, whose Father was born in England, and whose Mother was born in Arkansas. But his exact relationship to the Cole family is unknown. The Cole family was living near an elder daughter, Marena/Irena Cole Lovell who had married William Lovell in Texas as his second wife.
The work in the Sawmill began to dwindle, and after the birth of their first child, a daughter, Millie Adeline Cherry in 1890 they decided to remove to the B I T (Big Indian Territory.) After disposing of their property and securing a suitable wagon and Oxen they started the trek up through the present day Ouachita area National forest and finally arrived in Magazine, Logan County Arkansas
In 1854 their first daughter, Sarah E Cherry was born, followed by the arrival of a second daughter Susan in 1855. Later three more Daughters were born, Emily F Cherry in 1864, Tennessee L Cherry in 1868, and Charlotte "Lottie" Cherry in 1871, and finally a son, William Beverly Cherry in 1874, named for the good friend of F M Cherry, Beverly Basil Owens, who also named one of his sons Francis Marion , after F M Cherry.
The two oldest daughters, Sarah b 1855 and Susan b 1856 married two of Beverly Basil Owens's sons, Sarah married Francis Marion Owens in 1875, and Susan married Henry Owens in 1877.Both of these families would move to Texas around 1880.Taking with them siblings of Sarah and Susan. Emily F Cherry b in 1864, Tennessee L Cherry b in 1868, and Charlotte "Lottie" Cherry b in 1870, and William Beverly Cherry in 1875.Also, a brother of Francis Marion Owens and Henry Owens, George Owens would settle in Texas.

By 1910, Francis and Sarah were raising the 7 yr old twins, Ruby & Ray,children of Tennessee (Cherry) Donnell. Sarah died Jan 16, 1934 Collingsworth County, TX and is buried next to Francis in Quail Cemetery, Quail, Collingsworth Texas.Also at Quail: Lula, Edith Esther, Susan Frances,Thomas A, and Ruby T Donald, who by time of death in 1924 , was list as Ruby Owens in cemetery records but as Ruby Donald on death certificate. The second leaves out word suicide and states death by ingesting poison(lye).Death certificate of Susan states body removed to Hicks Station Texas for burial.Before the 1940's, Tarrant County was a rural community consisting mostly of farmers and ranchers.Hicks was 12 miles northwest of Ft. Worth. It was a community built around a railroad siding - constructed from a huge ranch owned by Charles E. Hicks.

Mattie May would marry Thomas Russell. Mattie, age 17, would die in childbirth Aug 1910. Her child would die at age 10 months, 1911. Minnie would marry Otis Foster. Thomas Lee Ross would remarry to Rosa Creasy Murphy. Thomas Lee Ross was buried at Hamilton Beeman Cemetery in 1939.
