Fire Death Of Mitchellite A Suicide
MITCHELL--(AP)--Davison County authorities said today the death Tuesday of a Mitchell woman from burns suffered in a gasoline fire was the result of a suicide attempt. Mrs. Jack Foos, 63, the victim, died about 9 p.m. in a local hospital after undergoing surgery earlier. She had suffered burns on about 90 percent of her body in the yard at her home Monday morning. Authorities said she admitted the suicide attempt to persons at the scene of the mishap. The investigation revealed a trail of gasoline drippings from the trailer home to a spot between two buildings where she apparently lit her gasoline-soaked clothing on fire. Her husband, alerted by the family dog, rushed to the scene and ripped off her clothing and wrapped her in his jacket before calling authorities. The accident was investigated by the Davison County sheriff's office, the county coroner and the Mitchell Fire Department. Funeral arrangements, under direction of the Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, are incomplete.
