Death of Alfred A. Abbott

Alfred A. Abbott, whose store for the sale of candy, popcorn and small articles is well known, died Sunday at his home in the southwest part of town, aged 54 years. Mr. Abbott was afflicted with rheumatism for several years and for the past few months had not been able to attend his business. He attended the meeting of the Neosho Advertising Club on May 12th for first time for many weeks and a nice bouquet of flowers was presented to him in appreciation of his presence.

Mr. Abbott was born Dec. 4, 1864, in Melpine, Iowa, and was married May 1, 1890, at Horton, Kansas, to Miss Lila Davis. Mrs. and Mrs. Abbott lived in Omaha for several years and then moved to Colorado. They came to Neosho 10 years ago and started a small store on the south side of the square. Mr. Abbott was a good business man and in spite of his affliction maintained an obliging and cheerful disposition. He made friends from the start and his business prospered. He had wonderful energy and attended to his trade when most men in his crippled condition would have given up. He was an active member of the Neosho Advertising Club an always attended the meetings when he was able. He took a keen interest in all public affairs and in fact was a highly respected and useful citizen. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, one brother and four sisters. His mother and one sister were with him when he died.

The funeral services were held yesterday at 10 o'clock at the South Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. B.B. Pennington. Members of the Advertising Club showed their respect and sorrow by attending in a body.
