our beloved Mother passed away peacefully in the home that she loved so much, at the age of 93.
Born in San Jose to Italian Immigrants, Enrico and Alice Genovese. Her early childhood was in San Jose, and then the family moved to Santa Clara. Irene was the eldest of three daughters. She graduated from High School and was Liberty Princess and Italian Queen at the Santa Clara Parade. Irene took business writing and worked at her parents Grocery Store. During the summer months she would also work at the Packing House in Santa Clara, where she met the love of her life, Joe Fernandez. They happily married on May 3, 1942.
Irene is predeceased by her Husband Joe Fernandez and their eldest son, Robert Fernandez. Irene is survived by three of her children, Rebecca Souza (Jerry), Carol Fernandez (Ron), and Joseph Fernandez (Joy). She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Natalie, Gina, Jerry, and Adam. Irene was like a Mother to Natalie, and she adored each and every one of her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren; Samantha, Houston, Carol, and Manny. As well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Mom loved her home and often enjoyed having her many friends over to visit. In her latter years, Irene also loved to spend time with her three very special cats. Special thanks for the caregivers; Gracelia, Elvia, and Maricel, for the exceptional care, love and respect given to our Mother.
