Adam was born in Eagle Pass. The Cantu Family moved to the Fort Worth area, where he graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School. Adam was an ROTC member of D Company.
He enlisted in the Marines 3 June 1968 at the Dallas Recruiting Office.
Adam arrived in Vietnam 3 August 1969, where he was assigned to 3rd Force Recon, III MAF. Two
young brothers, half a world apart, died on Thursday of bullet wounds to the head. Ruben 18 years old, a younger brother of Adam, died of a self-inflicted bullet to the head. Ruben was found death about 4 am in the kitchen of his home. The medical examiner said that he had been shot between the eyes. A small caliber pistol lay at his side.
In Vietnam, at approximately 0845H, Adam 20 years old, died as a result of a bullet wound to the head from hostile forces rifle fire. Adam and a recon team were on a long reconnaissance patrol mission two miles from the Laotian border in the Ashua Valley and 6 kilometers west of A Luoi Village. Adam and 3 Marines in the recon patrol were killed during the engagement against hostile forces.
Adam was single and served his country for 1 year, 8 months and 2 days. was KIA #48,357.
He had been in Vietnam for 6 months.
Adam was 20 years, 3 months and 24 days old.
Survived by his parents, Epigmenio and Ernestine Morin Cantu and 2 sisters, Rachel and Ruth of 3716 Grove Street S, Fort Worth, Texas, and 2 brothers; Epigmenio Daniel and Martin David Cantu with the US Army in Germany.
