Lewis was the son of James Carroll & Bessie Lee (Dinkins) Bumpass. He married Sally Jane Shaw on Oct. 29, 1922.
They had six children. Their first child, Bessie Margaret, was born in Oklahoma City on July 31, 1923. (She married George Elmer Calfee. Bessie died in Howe, Grayson Co, TX on June 30, 2001.)
On April 18, 1930, they lived in Kemp, OK, where Lewis supported the family by farming. Another daughter, Virginia L., was four years & six months old.
