Jennings Levern Allen, 73, of Darlington died Sunday, December 18, 2005.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Tim Coker. Burial will be at Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen was born in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Andrew J. and Maggie Smith Allen and was the step-son of the late James Haynes. Mr. Allen graduated from St. John's High School in 1951. He then attended Clemson College and began a career at Sonoco. Mr. Allen worked for Sonoco Products for 45 years and retired in 1997. He was a member and served three terms as President of the Sonoco Old Timers Club.

Mr. Allen served in the National Guard, Darlington Unit. He was a member for many years of St. David's Masonic Lodge #72 AFM and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Mr. Allen was an avid Clemson fan and a long time member of IPTAY.

Mr. Allen coached Little League Baseball for many years and coached one team to a state championship. Ater retiring, he coached Girl's softball for several seasons.

In recent years Mr. Allen enjoyed visiting his friends at Takis and being "Grandpa" to his pride and joy, Russ Sansbury and Alexa Allen.

Suruvivors include his wife, Gail C. Allen of the home; two sons, Bart Allen of Florence and Alex Allen of Charleston; one daughter, Melinda (Al) Sansbury of Hartsville; one sister, Evelyn (Clifford "Bubba") Harvey of Florence and his beloved mother-in-law, Esther Cook of Darlington.
