By Black Toney-Useeit, by Bonnie JoeBlack Gold had his best season at 3. As predicted he won the 1924 Kentucky Derby, but he also won the Louisiana, Chicago, and Ohio Derbys. After racing for two years, Black Gold was put out to stud at four. When he was found to be sterile, he was returned to racing at 6 but found little success.Black Gold broke a leg while racing at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans in 1928. He was put down and then buried in the track's infield.
