Danny Leon Lappin, age 74, of Bonnie, died at 10:48 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. Danny was born April 23, 1935, in Bonnie, the son of Joe and Maudie Ann (Woolard) Lappin. He first married Wanda Oller and she proceeded him in death in February of 1980. He later married Karen Hensley and she proceeded him in death. On May 23, 1989, He married Barbara (Scott) Lusby and she survives in Bonnie. Danny was a coal miner for Freeman United Mine No. 6 Waltonville until retirement. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a proud member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1591. He was a member of the Illinois Horse Pullers Association. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lappin of Bonnie; two sons, Ben Lappin and special friend LeeAnn Braden and daughter Clara Ann of Waltonville and John Lappin of Christopher; two stepdaughters, Stacey Forsyth and husband Troy of Bluford and Shanna Lusby and special friend Greg Rector of Mt. Vernon; two stepsons, Bill Lusby and wife LeeAnn of Texico and Scott Lusby of Bluford; three brothers, Fred Lappin of Sesser, Bert Lappin and wife Margie of Iuka and Jerry Lappin and wife Mary of Scheller; three sisters, Joann Frick and husband Gene of Bonnie, Brenda Best and husband Dennis of Lucas, Texas and Linda Frisch and husband Bob of Scheller; four grandchildren, Bryce Owens, Dylan Forsyth, River Rector and Sawyer Lusby; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Wanda Oller and Karen Hensley; two brothers, Ernie and Melton Lappin; and two sisters, Wanda Weills and Sybil Sledge. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Deon Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Abner Cemetery in Nason.Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
