Police divers on Sunday recovered the body of a fisherman who drowned in the New River. Stacy Stephens of Sissonville was pulled into the water when he hooked a fish Saturday evening. Friends tried to save him as he swam to save his to save his rod. He was 33.

Stacy Madison Stephens, 33, of Poca drowned Aug. 14, 1999, in the New River, near Sandstone.He was a construction worker. Surviving: fiancee, Anita Lynn Allman of Poca; sons, Thomas Lee. Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. WV
