US Congressman. After serving a term in the New York State Legislature, where he was the Speaker of the House from 1792 to 1793, he was elected to represent New York's 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1793 to 1795. He was the grandfather of Civil War Union Army Major General Philip Kearny.
