Mrs. GEORGE CHAPMAN
DORSET - Mrs. Katherine A. Chapman, 80, widow of George Chapman, a former school teacher, died Friday in Rutland Hospital.
She was born in Ascutney Oct 26, 1884, a daughter of George and Mary (Gillis) Hitchcock, and came to Dorset with her husband more than 30 years ago.
She taught school in New Hampshire and Windsor, V., and during World War I served overseas as a Red Cross canteen worker.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Hazel H. Whitcomb of Rutland; a brother, Allen, of Ascutney, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Brewster Funeral Home, Manchester, Sunday at 2 pm with the Rev. Robert G.Dana, pastor of the Dorset Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Dorset. Friends may call today at the funeral home from 2 to 4. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Dorset Library.
