Brigadeer General, Tuskegee Airmen, Civil Rights Leader. Celes King was born in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles in 1938. During World War II he enlisted in the military service and became a pilot in the Tuskegee Airman Squadron. After completing his military service, Celes, along with his father founded a bail bond agency. King became a General in the California National Guard and served several terms as President of the L.A. branch of the NAACP. In 1989 King founded CORE-CA, the Congress of Racial Equality. King was also chairman of the Los Angeles City Human Relations Commission. Over the last 2 decades of his life King served as confidante and advisor to Governors, Mayors, Police Chiefs, Sheriffs and other elected officials.
